World Series of Poker Europe
The World Series of Poker is well known for being the largest and most infamous series of poker tournaments in the world. Hosted yearly in Las Vegas, Nevada, the WSOP brings together the absolute best players in the world to battle over millions of dollars in prize money and countless tournament events. Although the no limit hold’em main event is the most popular, the WSOP is filled with many other events that all hold big prize pools. In a natural next step for the world’s largest poker tournament, Harrah’s entertainment introduced the World Series of Poker Europe at London’s Fifty, Leicester Square Casino in September of 2007 bringing the most prestigious poker tournament in the world to an eagerly awaiting European market.
The World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) is likely to become one of the leading annual poker events in Europe and with Harrah’s hinting towards further expansion, perhaps other parts of the world. Aiding Harrah’s in bringing the WSOP to Europe is the UK’s very own Betfair Poker which is one of the largest betting houses in the world. This high powered duo made the first WSOPE a success and is a partnership that is likely to continue into the future.
Driving the move to take the WSOP global is the never ending growth of poker. Poker has been a popular game internationally for a long time, but a massive poker explosion during the early years of this decade has fueled an international buzz. Europe now boats some of the best no limit players in the world and the game has become incredibly popular in Asian nations. With the World Series of Poker finally arriving in Europe, this infamous tournament is now available to an even wider international audience.
